A lionel train set is the most famous model railroad toy built in the world. A lionel train set is what every hobbyist looks forward to owning. No one can call themselves a true model railroader if they have never owned an authentic lionel train set.
Lionel: Holiday Tradition Special Train Set 
The lionel train set was invented in the year nineteen hundred and has been a favorite among children and adults all over the world for well over one hundred years. My grandfather owned a lionel train set and, my father had one, and some day my son and his son will be the proud owners of one. My grandfather used to wear an engineers cap when he operated his railroad. A lionel train set is rugged and is built for speed, dependability and durability. Parents buy durable toys for their children because they can take a beating and continue to operate which is one of the advantages of having a lionel train set. When I was about eight years old, my father gave my brother and me a layout for Christmas. There was a lionel train set and an American flyer layout on the same board with different track, and they worked independently.
My brother had the lionel train set and I had the flyer. I loved my flyer, but it didn’t have the features that came with my brothers, his lionel train set was faster and had a working headlight, a whistle, real smoke coming from the smoke stack on the engine, and a re-railer that would put the cars back on the track if they came off. My engine and tracks didn’t come with those kinds of features at time. The layout was on a four foot by eight foot table my grandfather built. The table had roads, grass, and buildings on it, and looked just like a real town with cars and people. I’ll never forget how I felt when I saw it for the first time. My brother told me, he will always remember what it felt like to own his first lionel train set.
