The scale models built for toy railroads are as popular as the real thing, and are also currently being produced in large numbers. The f40ph was originally built for long distance travel, they were ordered by Amtrak in the seventies. As it turned out, the engine was not as efficient as originally anticipated. However, commuter lines all over the country purchased the locomotive because it proved to be ideal for short haul commuter service.                                                        A hobbyist would find the f40ph perfect for model railroading. If your layout consists of a suburban look with a big city as a back drop, the f40ph should fit right into your setup as the ideal power plant for a short haul passenger train layout. For a suburban train yard, a fleet consisting of the f40ph would give your yard a very realistic look.

Since local service usually runs in just about all directions into and out of a city, a hobbyist can have quiet a few trains in the main station being pulled by an f40ph. Add digital command control, and you can run a number of engines at the same time while controlling them independently.          The f40ph is available in paint schemes that represent many different providers of suburban transit lines across the nation; therefore, your setup can symbolize your favorite local provider. You can easily duplicate the history of commuter lines from the mid to late nineteen seventies into the new millennium by building a layout that tells the story of one of history’s most well known locomotives, the f40ph.
